Amy's Quilt Festival.

Over at Amy's blog there is an online quilt festival starting today and running for a week.

As I have only ever made one quilt I don't have a lot of choice but as no judging takes place I thought I'd participate.

Apologies to those who have already read the details of the quilt in an earlier post but I need to chronicle the it's making for the festival.

It was about 2-3 years in the planning , as I was such a coward I really didn't know where to begin. The idea for the quilt was a request from my youngest daughter and not wishing to disappoint I immediately agreed.
The material was duly bought and about 2 squares were sewn and that was it for at least a year!!!
Then last Autumn I visited a quilt exhibition and when talking to a very talented lady just had to mention about 'this' quilt . She was very reassuring and said' as long as you stick to your pattern all will be well'. A pattern, what pattern? There was no pattern, I believed I could make this up as I went along. So hot foot to the library I went and found a very easy pattern book and , as the saying goes, the rest is history.
It is 84"x 84" . I used cotton wadding, which was great as it 'stuck' to the material . The backing was sheeting . Although not seen too well on the photo I stippled all the white squares and quilted in the ditch around the coloured blocks. All the quilting was done by machine on my Janome Jubilee 85. Once motivated I completed it in about 4 months.
My daughter is delighted with it and I'm pretty pleased too. Now I'm considering quilting a picnic tablecloth.

The things we do for our children! I have promised one for my son and his partner and now just need some inspiration to get started. I love your choice of colours. Now you have the bug this must be the first of many!

Your quilt is beautiful. I've never made a quilt and since I gave away my sewing machine last year I don't suppose I ever will now - I can't imagine sewing all that by hand!

HA! If you hadn't told us this was a first quilt, we'd never have known. It came out beautifully. :-) That said, I enjoyed your story, because I'm still intimidated when trying new methods, and I've been quilting for about 15 years.
