Spring flowers and good books...

It's been a beautiful sunny day here in Teesdale, just the right day for a spot of gardening. Hence the photos, pansies are some of my favourites and they really looked their best in the midday sunshine. So the afternoon was spent doing a spot of weeding , this was after my trip to the library. I was looking for non-fiction sewing books but they seem to be scarce so the crime novels it had to be----

'August Heat' by Andrea Camilleri. A new author to me but the sleeve sounded good --'A secret apartment and a grisly find in an old trunk are just the beginning...'

'The Guilt of Innocents' by Candace Robb.Here is a good storyteller. The year 1372, York, a drowned man but was it an accident. Owen Archer, the Bishop's Captain solves the mystery.

'Day the floods came' by Agatha Raisin by M.C. Beaton. The body of a woman dressed in a wedding dress is found floating down the river. Agatha to the 'rescue'.

I also got an audio book, 'Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet'(just the right reading for a farmer's wife, lol!)

So when I will start these I don't know as I am in the middle of another sewing project for my grandaughter and there still is the odd lamb to be born and sheep to feed...

It's been a lovely sunny day here in north Northumberland too.

I am surprised by this coincidence - I'm writing a post for tomorrow about which book to choose from the newbooks magazine and one of them is August Heat! I've read one of Camilleri's books before and enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on this book.

We seem to have similiar taste in books as I love Candace Robb too. Have you read any by Alys Clare? If not I can recommend them - they are in a similiar vein to Robb's. I haven't tried the Agatha Raisin ones yet but I think I will now.

I love both Candace Robb and Alys Clare's mysteries. I also like Bernard Knight (12th century) and Michael Jecks (14th century).

Amy's Quilt Festival.

Over at Amy's blog there is an online quilt festival starting today and running for a week. As I have only ever made one quilt I don't have a lot of choice but as no judging takes place I thought I'd participate. Apologies to those who have already read the details of the quilt in an earlier post but I need to chronicle the it's making for the festival. It was about 2-3 years in the planning , as I was such a coward I really didn't know where to begin. The idea for the quilt was a request from my youngest daughter and not wishing to disappoint I immediately agreed. The material was duly bought and about 2 squares were sewn and that was it for at least a year!!! Booking through Thursday

This is this week's discussion We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet. What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet? I think this week's discussion could be closely related to my last post concerning the Daily Telegraph article on reading habits.
