The Sunday Salon

So another week flies by, I 'm so pleased it's Easter Sunday soon. I am dying for chocolate. Every year I try and think of something different to give up for Lent and each year I resort to the same thing. I know that the idea is to sacrifice something that is special to you ,and believe me I am a chocoholic!! However, sometimes I do think I must expand my repertoire of sacrifices! So next Sunday I'll probably miss the 'Salon' as my hands will be too full of chocs!
Anyhow that's next week . this past week saw me polish off an
Anita Shreve novel and I am nearly finished '84, Charing Cross Road' . I'll probably finish this today and hopefully get the review written. Anita Shreve's' A Wedding on December' was a good read. I have a few of her books , but would rank this one up there with 'The Pilot's Wife' , which was my first Shreve read . An excellent book.
The movie '84, Charing Cross Road' , sprung to mind when I saw this book, my love of the movie influenced buying the book. I could see Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft, saying the words on paper. More later on that one later.

Hope you all have a good week.

Starting The Believers by Zoe Heller today. High hopes. Happy reading!

I haven't read it or seen the movie but, now, I want to!

Anita Shreve is a beautiful writer so I'll have to pick up this book at the library. Sometimes I'm a little reluctant to try her books because, even though her writing is always spot on, the stories aren't always so good. Nice to read your positive thoughts on this book!

Have a quick week so you can get to your chocolate soon!

I don't often have chocolate because I can't stop at one piece!

Anita Shreve is a great favourite - I loved Fortunes Rocks and the Last Time They Met as well as the ones you've mentioned.

And 84 Charing Cross Road was just marvellous. What a good reading week you had.

I've read 84 Charing Cross Road - I loved it, long ago, and I saw the movie. It's one reason that helped me remember where to go for books when in London!!! lol I haven't read Anita Shreve yet, but i've heard some good things about here. I'll read your review when you post it.

Oh - and I am sooo a chocoholic also!!! Books and chocolate, I'm in heaven!!! so I'll race to see who eats the most chocolate next Sunday! lol

Oh, I love 84 Charing Cross Road, just re-read it last year. Never seen the film though. Many years ago I read another book by Hanff about life in her New York apartment and I really enjoyed it. Wonder if it's still in print.
