This week has been dominated by my love of historical fiction.Although it took me just three days to read 'Innocent Traitor' by Alison Weir My mind was drawn back to the discovering of all these wonderful history books.
In the early 70's I was a student nurse working on an old people's ward.It was my first year in nursing and although I enjoyed the work I was very nervous and shy. I remember the Sister-in-charge with great affection. A wonderful, caring nurse whom I admired , she was only a few years older than me and I felt as though we were on the 'same wavelength', although her nursing was far superior to mine.
I noticed that every coffee/tea break she read certain type of books, in fact she seemed to have a new one every day. One day I plucked up courage to ask her about her book and she highly recommended
Jean Plaidy. From that day to this I have loved these books. Over the last few years I have broadened my horizons to incorporate such authors as Alison Weir. Hence my reading of 'Innocent Traitor'. There seem to be many more historical fiction authors than in the 70's, and I like nothing better than to check out their books. I am so grateful to that nursing Sister , who helped to open my eyes to the fascinating world of historical fiction.

I've never been too crazy about historical fiction but after reading Mistress Shakespeare last week, I might look for more and will keep Alison Weir in mind. Thanks!

As a teenager I read every single Plaidy book and the historical content was so spot on that I used to amaze my history teacher with my knowledge of French, Italian and Spanish history! May I recommend two books, The Book of Love and Needle and the Blood by Sarah Bower - both stunning historical novels which I have loved and am always telling others about

Over at Amy's blog there is an online quilt festival starting today and running for a week. As I have only ever made one quilt I don't have a lot of choice but as no judging takes place I thought I'd participate. Apologies to those who have already read the details of the quilt in an earlier post but I need to chronicle the it's making for the festival. It was about 2-3 years in the planning , as I was such a coward I really didn't know where to begin. Booking through Thursday

This is this week's discussion We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading.
