This week the discussion is the following ------
Have you ever been put off an author’s books after reading a biography of them? Or the reverse - a biography has made you love an author more? Courtesy of Simon Thomas

I don't normally read biographies , but I always read the paragraph or two which is inside the back sleeve of a book. I can't say that these lines influence me greatly. However, if I find an author that lives close by, such as Anne Fine or Patricia Fawcett(she has moved now) I like to sample their prose. The story is more important than the author to me.

I always enjoy the 'About the Author' in the backs of books, but I can't say that it has ever detered me from reading further books by that author. I'm ther for the story. Sometimes the tidbits are interesting, but it doens't dictate what I'll read or not read.

I agree - the story is more important. I have to be really taken with an author's works before I'll be tempted to seek out his biography.

Amy's Quilt Festival.

Over at Amy's blog there is an online quilt festival starting today and running for a week. As I have only ever made one quilt I don't have a lot of choice but as no judging takes place I thought I'd participate. Apologies to those who have already read the details of the quilt in an earlier post but I need to chronicle the it's making for the festival. It was about 2-3 years in the planning , as I was such a coward I really didn't know where to begin. The idea for the quilt was a request from my youngest daughter and not wishing to disappoint I immediately agreed. The material was duly bought and about 2 squares were sewn and that was it for at least a year!!! This is this week's discussion We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet. What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet? I think this week's discussion could be closely related to my last post concerning the Daily Telegraph article on reading habits. However as I have already 'casted my vote' in the 'Telegraph' poll I'll concentrate on books on my bookshelf that I intend to read one day.
