An old soldier.

I've just seen Harry Patch , veteran of World War 1 on tv.This old soldier is now well over 100 and still remembers vividly the fighting in that war and how he held a comrade hand as he died. Wasn't that called 'the war to end all wars'. Unfortunately we all know that wasn't the case.
In these times we are all , imho dashing around , worrying about finances, homes etc. These are all important but I hope that I , at least, can take time to consider human beings and put my fellow man before my possessions.

Reading the installments of the book on World War 1 in the trenches, being serialised in the Daily Mail really brings hoime to one the almost unbelievable life in the trenches.
Have always known about them of course, especially as my Grandfather faught in WW1 but reading these personal stories is an eye opener.

Over at Amy's blog there is an online quilt festival starting today and running for a week. As I have only ever made one quilt I don't have a lot of choice but as no judging takes place I thought I'd participate. Apologies to those who have already read the details of the quilt in an earlier post but I need to chronicle the it's making for the festival. It was about 2-3 years in the planning , as I was such a coward I really didn't know where to begin. The idea for the quilt was a request from my youngest daughter and not wishing to disappoint I immediately agreed. The material was duly bought and about 2 squares were sewn and that was it for at least a year!!! This is this week's discussion We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet.
